Human Services Assistant
Job Announcement
Under general supervision, provides paraprofessional support to Human Service Workers who determine eligibility for public assistance programs. Uses automated technology to document, obtain, and verify information, and to generate reports including scanning of documents. Prepares and maintains statistical reports and records. Assists with the coordination and monitoring of the unit work. Provides back-up for administrative aides as workloads and deadlines are required. Interacts with county staff, community-based organizations, and customers to answer inquiries, problem solve, and verify information that is needed. Identifies, researches, and solves service delivery problems. Supports all areas of Central Function Team as needed.
This job announcement may be used to fill multiple positions across the Depts 4 offices. Hybrid telework schedule eligible after first 30 days of employment.
Illustrative Duties
Assists professional staff with specific routine care management services such as
program publicity, routine/limited service eligibility determination, intake/history client
interviews, language translations, interpretations of health information and services, and
administration and scoring of diagnostic tests;
Maintains/updates information on available human services and obtains information on
new services;
Maintains resource library and assists clients with use of library;
Collects and presents information regarding client dissatisfaction or misuse of services;
Collects, formats and presents program statistics for reports and program assessments;
Teaches, interprets and/or assists with conducting health information classes.
Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of the basic principles of human behavior;
Knowledge of word processing and data management programs (Excel, survey software)
Ability to communicate effectively to clients;
Ability to organize information and records;
Ability to communicate in written format;

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to the following:

Any combination of education, experience and training equivalent to graduation from
high school or GED issued by state department of education; plus three years of work
experience, including two years in some area of human services (related two-year
[associate] degree may be substituted for the required human service experience).
LICENSE REQUIRED:
Valid driver's license
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check and a child protective services check to the satisfaction of the employer.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- At least one year of experience working with the public and managing multiple tasks at one time.
- Clear and concise oral and written communications skills.
- Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Experience and proficiency using Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel computer software applications; and the willingness to learn new applications and systems as needed.
- At least one year of experience providing excellent customer service to a diverse population.
- At least one year of experience providing front-line customer service.
- At least one year of experience using a scanning program to manage, sort, and scan documents.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to input/retrieve date from a computer. Bend stoop and reach. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
