Program Operations Assistance
The EPA National Student Services Contract has 2 immediate openings for part-time Program Operations Assistance contractor positions with the Office of Research and Development at the EPA facility in Duluth, MN.
Salary: $19.84 per hour.
Travel: Occasional overnight travel may be required.
Required Skills:
- Two years of college education;
- Completion of at least four college courses in the biological sciences, chemistry, engineering, physical and/or environmental sciences from an accredited university or college;
- Demonstrated education and/or experience in a laboratory such as in a laboratory course(s);
- Experience working in teams;
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (i.e., Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook), and the Internet;
- Experience in administration support functions (i.e., recordkeeping, filing) and managing records (electronic and hardcopy) or databases; and
- Strong written, oral and electronic communication skills (i.e., written, oral, telephone etiquette, presentation abilities), including effective multi-media technical communications.
Qualifications:
- Be at least 18 years of age and
- Have earned at least two years of college education from an accredited university or college within the last 24 months and
- Be a citizen of the United States of America or a Legal Permanent Resident.
EPA ORD employees, their spouses, and children are not eligible to participate in this program.
What the EPA project is about
The Great Lakes Toxicology and Ecology Division (GLTED) within ORD's Center for Computational Toxicology and Exposure (CCTE)is responsible for providing scientific information for use in predicting and assessing effects of pollutants and other stressors on our nation's freshwater resources. Within this context, GLTED's research areas contribute to multiorganizational programs, involving scientists within ORD and from other partner Agencies.
This position is in the Division Program Operations Staff (D-POS) of the Great Lakes Toxicology and Ecology Division (GLTED), Duluth, Minnesota, and assists the Chief of Program Operations. The Program Operations team provides leadership, management, oversight, and support for the operations of the Safety, Health, and Environmental Management (SHEM), Property and Space Management, Facilities Management and Support, Building & Facilities (B&F) resource/funds management, Capital Equipment implementation and installation support, specialized research equipment design and fabrication, accountable property inventory, Fleet Management, and office management services and oversees administrative support functions to the various Branches within GLTED.
This is an excellent opportunity for a current college student to collaborate with EPA’s research team. Research experience includes:
- Assist in in creating and presenting safety, health, and environmental compliance training materials to staff;
- Assist in performance of SHEM programs to include chemical inventory, chemical waste management, eyewash testing, hazard communication information, industrial hygiene sampling, laboratory safety walkthroughs, and maintaining associated records and documentation; and
- Networking and exploring many career paths at EPA.
