Enteric Intern
In this position, you will assist both the enteric disease and vectorborne disease teams at the Pennsylvania Department of Health. Your main duty will involve conducting telephone interviews with patients diagnosed with enteric diseases, which will include routine follow-ups after reports of illness and interviews related to outbreak investigations. This role requires engaging with individuals affected by reportable illnesses, documenting relevant health information and exposures, and contributing to disease surveillance and outbreak response initiatives. If time allows, you will also interview cases of alpha-gal syndrome associated with mammalian meat allergies due to lone star tick bites. Additional tasks may involve database management, data entry, and participation in weekly team meetings, with potential opportunities to engage in special projects as time and interest allow. Furthermore, this role may entail emergency assignments to support the public health emergency response efforts of the Department of Health, which could be assigned with little notice and may last from a few hours to several weeks, potentially requiring travel to locations outside of your designated office.
