WHAT TO EXPECT:
- Oversee the growth, development, and day-to-day operations of the Athletic Facility.
- Develops, implements, evaluates and continually modifies all components of a comprehensive fitness and health promotion program including fitness facilities, group exercise classes, personal training, fitness and health promotion workshops, health and lifestyle assessments, command fitness conditioning and support, large-scale events, etc.
- Sets standards, provide vision and serves as a model for fitness programs Navy-wide.
- Attends and participates in national conferences within the field to obtain the latest information and research.
- Assists with input for development and modification of Navy command physical conditioning and MWR fitness policies.
- Provides input for construction, renovation and operations of fitness facilities, ensuring compliance with all Navy and industry guidelines and standards.
- Develops and monitors the execution of the annual NAF operating budget. Determines financial requirements for short and long-term needs, analyzes financial data, and submits reports to management. Create new opportunities for program revenue and proposes cost saving initiatives.
- Determines property and equipment conditions to justify either turn-in for disposal or repairs required. Maintains property administration and industrial property control directives and regulations for all facets of property. Develops and implements equipment preventive maintenance plans.
- Promotes the use of fitness programs and facilities for maximum participation, serving a large community of naval personnel, retirees, civilians, and their eligible family members.
- Supervises Recreation Specialists (Fitness Trainers), Recreation Assistants, student interns and volunteers.
- Oversees, creates, modifies and coordinates staffing schedules. Evaluates work performance and prepares performance appraisals, authorizes leave, hears and resolved grievances, establish goals and expected performance standards and takes disciplinary measures (i.e. warnings, reprimands) when necessary. Recruits, hires, and trains personnel. Identifies the training and developmental for personal and professional needs of staff.
- Incumbent provides necessary on-the job training for subordinates.
- Complies with EEO policies and communicated support of these policies with subordinates.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
Must have one of the following:
- A bachelor's degree from an accredited university in Exercise Physiology, Physical Educations, Fitness, Nutrition Sciences, or similar; AND/OR
- Minimum three years of specialized experience in recreation programming or facility management in a large fitness facility,
- Must possess a current fitness certification from an accredited certifying health and fitness organization, Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), automated external defibrillator (AED) and first aid certifications OR be able to obtain within 60 days of being appointed to the position.
- Three (3) years of experience designing and implementing fitness and health promotion programs and operating multi-site facilities and program/staff.
- Become certified as a Navy Exercise Leader.
- Minimum of two (2) years’ experience conducting graded exercise test on a stationary bike or treadmill, performing body composition, lung function, flexibility, blood cholesterol and strength assessments.
- Two (2) years of experience counseling individuals on their results and recommending fitness and lifestyle modifications to make healthy changes.
- Experience coordinating the planning and execution of large-scale, complex activities and events on and off the instillations.
- Knowledge and experience with general business principles for financial planning/reporting.
- Understanding of the Department of Navy process and methods for Non-appropriated and Appropriated funds preferred.
- Ability to demonstrate both verbally and in writing the preparation of reports, written controls, program justification, program evaluations, and ability to communicate in front of a large group of people.
- Proficient in the use of computer and Microsoft applications.
