NCA: 2025 Government, Law, & Policy Spring Break Career Trek to Washington, DC

Northwestern Career Advancement is hosting a Government, Law, & Policy Career Trek to Washington, DC on Tuesday, March 25th and Wednesday, March 26th. This trek is for students who:

  • Are interested in exploring various careers within government, law, and policy
  • Are available to participate in the full trek on March 25-26 in Washington, DC
  • Are a current undergraduate student; first-year students, sophomores, juniors, and seniors are welcome to apply. If space is a constraint, preference will be given to juniors and seniors after considering application quality.

NCA staff will guide students through a two-day experience visiting employers. This trek is one of a variety of initiatives intended to support students in connecting with employers and alumni as well as exploring roles within the government, law, and policy. A detailed schedule and full list of employers will be available to students in March.

During site visits, students will be able to learn about career pathways and hear from professionals, all while connecting with alumni and fellow students with common interests.

Students will be responsible for arranging their own lodging and transportation to/from Washington, DC unless they have a demonstrated financial need. NCA wants to ensure that cost is never prohibitive to a student’s career planning. Students who receive financial aid from Northwestern will have the opportunity to request financial assistance and be considered for support. NCA will work to share any aid it can provide before students are asked to confirm their participation on the trek.

To be considered to attend the Career Trek students should submit a resume, complete the following essay responses, and complete the survey linked below (if seeking financial assistance) no later than 11:59pm central on Friday, January 17th.

Please answer the following 2 essay questions:

  1. Why are you interested in Government, Law, and/or Policy? (Maximum of 250 words allowed)
  2. What do you hope to learn by participating in this trek? (Maximum of 250 words allowed)

We encourage you to be as specific as possible. These responses will help us better understand your interests and share with our employer/alumni hosts.

As an additional and optional step in the application process, students can apply for financial assistance to potentially cover transportation and/or lodging. If you are interested in being considered for financial assistance, please complete the One Form link below. Application for financial assistance will not affect how we select candidates.
