Job Summary:
This recruitment will be used to fill one full-time Temporary Biological Sciences Research Technician 2 position for the Department of Fisheries Wildlife, & Conservation Sciences at Oregon State University (OSU ).
This position will be located in Paulina, Oregon.
The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW ), Bureau of Land Management (BLM ) Prineville District Office, and conservation partners in Central Oregon have been concerned about the declining greater sage-grouse population numbers in the Brothers/North Wagontire Priority Area of Conservation (Brothers PAC ) region. Population numbers are declining more steadily in this region than surrounding areas. The Brothers PAC region is the western-most population of current sage-grouse range in North America. This edge of the distribution is being encroached by humans to the West as the municipalities of Bend, Redmond, and Prineville, OR continue to expand. The BLM and ODFW are collaborating with Oregon State University’s Hagen Lab (led by Dr. Christian Hagen) to conduct a six-year study to determine why this population is not exhibiting the resilience of the surrounding populations. This year marks the fourth year of this six-year study and our objectives are to determine current sage-grouse use areas, vital rates, and raptor and corvid presence.
This position will be part of and lead a field crew utilizing various survey methods for greater sage-grouse.
