Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Reporting is a department within the Operational Support Group (OSG) that oversees Kinder Morgan’s Sustainability reporting, ESG investor engagement, and engagement with ESG ratings providers. The department is responsible for creating the annual Sustainability report which includes quarterly and annual data gathering, data Quality Assurance and Quality Control, overseeing the assurance processes with our 3rd party auditor and internal audit, and managing the report review and board approval. The department also engages with multiple ESG ratings companies throughout the year including MSCI, Sustainalytics, CDP, and S&P Corporate Sustainability Assessment.
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
An ESG intern will contribute to the ESG department and will learn about midstream energy sustainability topics; data management, data analytics, and testing; and working across multiple departments within a large company. At the end of the BOLT internship, the intern will be required to present a summary of their summer to the management of the department. This will be an opportunity for the intern to demonstrate what they have learned throughout their internship and provide insight on their experience to senior business leaders and key stakeholders.
The internship opportunities will be focused in one or more of the following areas:
- Collecting ESG-related data from multiple departments;
- Evaluating the collected data using Quality Assurance and Quality Control (QAQC) methods, determining if data is accurate and complete;
- Using IT systems, disclose and describe the collected data in the annual sustainability report and assist with the preparation of the annual sustainability report for publications;
- Developing and implementing efficiencies using technology to improve data collection and data analysis;
- Benchmarking company sustainability efforts against peers;
- Conducting gap analyses for new or changing regulatory requirements or changing voluntary sustainability standards; and
- Assisting with the ESG ratings company engagements.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- Working towards Bachelor’s degree in data science, sustainability, engineering, environmental sciences preferred.
- Minimum GPA: 3.0
- Demonstrated experience leading teams of people, either during school, work, or personal life - candidate must describe in detail during the interview
- Self-motivated and driven, with demonstrated interpersonal skills
- Ability to function effectively in both a team and individual environment
- Attention to detail and strong computer skills are essential
- Driven to discover and determined to deliver
- Open to travel in the United States
