Under immediate supervision, is responsible for performing entry level semi-skilled work painting facilities and refinishing furniture. Exercises no supervision.

Work Schedule

  • Monday-Friday 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM
  • Occasional weekends, holidays and after hours

Essential Job Functions

  • Cleans surfaces to be painted by using sandpaper, burners, scrapers, brushes, sanding machines, and dusters.
  • Assists in painting interior and exterior walls and other equipment by operating all equipment used in the paint trade.
  • Assists in installing floor and wall coverings made of various materials which may weigh up to 50 pounds.
  • Assists in installing ceiling tiles.
  • Assists in finishing furniture.
  • Assists in erecting and dismantling scaffolds, which may entail movements of stooping, climbing, standing, reaching, and crouching.
  • Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.

Job Requirements

  • Formal or informal education or training which ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance.
  • Valid Class "C" Texas Driver's License or the ability to obtain within thirty (30) days of employment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous professional painting experience
  • Previous maintenance and/or trades experience

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of tools, equipment, methods, materials, and terminology used in the paint trade.
  • Knowledge of safety procedures as they relate to the use of paints, solvents, glues, tools and equipment.
  • Skill in the application of paints and other finishes by brush or spray gun.
  • Skill in the operation of all tools and equipment used in the paint trade.
  • Ability to learn the more complex aspects of the paint trade.
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, and the public.
  • Ability to perform all the physical requirements of the position, with or without accommodations.
  • Working conditions are both indoor and outdoor with exposure to temperature extremes, unfavorable fumes and odors, and hazardous chemicals.

One year of full-time experience is defined as 30 or more hours worked per week for 12 months.  One year of higher education is defined as 30 credit hours completed at an accredited college or university.
