Learning & Development Associate

Position Summary

Responsible for designing, conducting and organizing training programs to improve employee performance and ensure organizational productivity. Will analyze training needs and recommend appropriate development strategy(s).

Essential Functions

  • Assess training needs through consultation with managers, interviews with employees, focus groups, or surveys to develop new programs or modify and improve existing programs to meet emerging organizational or individual trends, needs or skill gaps.
  • Plan, develop, and provide training and staff development programs using knowledge of effective adult learning methods such as classroom training, seminars, demonstrations, on-the-job training, meetings, conferences, and workshops. Select and use training/instructional methods and procedures appropriate for the situation and audience.
  • Offer specific training programs to help workers maintain or improve job skills.
  • Develop or obtain training manuals, guides, course materials, handouts, and multimedia visual aids.
  • Evaluate training materials such as textbooks and handouts to ensure that material being presented to employees is appropriate to the audience, relevant and aligned with needs assessment and skills gap analysis for the employee and the organization.
  • Conduct or arrange for the delivery of ongoing technical and skills training and personal development classes for managers and staff. Present information to trainees using a variety of instructional techniques or formats, such as role playing, simulations, team exercises, group discussions, videos, or lectures.
  • Train managers and supervisors in techniques and skills for coaching and developing employees.
  • Monitor training costs to ensure budget is not exceeded; prepare cost/benefit analysis to justify training expenditures.
  • Develop testing and evaluation procedures for skills and technical training programs.
  • Build and maintain organization-wide training database; create management reports as requested.
  • Create and maintain an annual training calendar based upon needs analysis; adjustment the calendar as attendance and emerging needs dictate.
  • Administer annual compliance assignments for all employees.
  • Deliver monthly HR Orientation sessions.

Additional Functions

  • Research training requests for external training course or educational opportunities.
  • Keeping up-to-date technically and apply new knowledge in the field of adult and lifetime learning.

Job Requirements and Qualifications

  • Travel to branch locations and training center is required.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in education, organizational development, business, or similar field.
  • Minimum 4 years' experience in a trainer/training manager capacity.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in banking industry preferred.

  • Excellent computer skills in a Microsoft Windows environment including proficiency in Word and Excel.
  • Excellent at talking to others to convey information effectively; teaching others how to do something.
  • Excellent active listening skills-giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
  • Excellent use of logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
  • Skilled in adjusting actions in relation to others' actions and needs.
  • Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
  • Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for adult learners and groups, and the measurement of training effects.
  • Knowledge of human behavior and performance; individual differences in ability, personality, and interests; group behavior and dynamics; and learning and motivation.
  • Knowledge of media production, communication, and dissemination techniques and methods. This includes alternative ways to inform and entertain via written, oral, and visual media.
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
  • Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, designing forms, and other office procedures and terminology.
  • Ability to come up with a number of ideas about a topic and to combine pieces of information to form general rules or conclusions. Ability to quickly make sense of, combine, and organize information into meaningful contexts.
  • Ability to communicate information and ideas in speaking and writing so others will understand.
  • Ability to translate wheat information means and how it can be used.
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit for long periods of time up to 75% of work hours.
  • Ability to use hands to grasp, handle and operate office, computer and audio-visual equipment.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time up to 50% of work hours.
  • Ability to talk, listen and see.
  • Ability to lift up to 20 lbs. at least 25% of work hours.

Working Conditions

  • Moderate sound as in business office with office machines, computers, and people traffic.
