Department Description

GlaxoSmithKline US discovery Drug Metabolism and Pharmacokinetics (DMPK)/Sample Management organization is responsible for delivery of key DMPK and sample management support (in vitro, pharmacokinetic, bioanalytical, sample management) to help drive early drug discovery programs. Within that structure, the Discovery Sample Management team is responsible for managing and distributing of GSK proprietary small molecule collection with focus on automation and software to ensure we deliver highest quality result with a rapid turnaround.

Job Description

Bench Scientist responsible for management of GSK collection including distribution of samples and inventory management. Sample prep uses a variety of laboratory automations and software applications. Responsible for delivering and implementing a new technology into our workflow or learn a new process and optimize it. Able to perform within timeline and prioritize multiple functions. Responsible for following standard operating procedures to maintain compliance and safety standards.  Competent in basic laboratory techniques. Has the ability to work independently as well as in a team.

 

Main duties:

  • Work in a team responsible for the daily receiving/sorting, weighing, distributing, and maintaining inventory of our small molecule chemical compounds.
  • Deliver one project (automation implementation or process improvement) during the term.
  • Use multiple software applications to drive each process flow.
  • Must have good attention to detail and be highly organized.
  • Capable of prioritizing multiple job functions and ability to work within tight deadlines.
  • Follow written procedures and maintains accurate records.
  • Effectively communicate results of work to supervisor and others.
  • Maintain instruments in good working order and reports safety and maintenance problem to supervisor.
  • Operate in accordance with various SOPs, compliance, and safety standards.

Addition duties could include:

  • Working with various liquid handling equipment/complex automation platform to generate final output plates.
  • Working with multi-dollar automation stores to manage collection.
  • Weekly/monthly quality check our instruments/processes.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Pursuing a Bachelors or Masters in Biology, Chemistry, Biomedical Engineering or similar disciplines.
  • Must be able to work full-time (35-40 hours/week) throughout the 6-month month co-op (March 2025 ~ September 2025).
  • Must have an active student status and/or within 12 months post-graduation from a BS or MS degree program. Post-doctoral candidates are not eligible.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Basic understanding of laboratory terminology, equipment, materials, and procedures, and the fundamental laboratory methods relating to chemistry or biology.
  • Experience: performing standardized laboratory tests according to outline procedures; and calculating and recording test results; maintaining a clean, sterile, and safe laboratory environment.

  • Must successfully pass a drug screen and background check prior to assignment target start date.

  • While GSK embraces a flexible work environment, we do require certain positions to be onsite. Candidates who are hired for an on-site role or hybrid role, and reside outside of 50-miles from their assigned work location, are eligible for relocation stipend. This is a one-time payment to help offset housing & relocation expenses. Please refer to the position details for the requirements of each position. 
  • GSK Interns and Co-ops are offered a competitive hourly pay rate and benefits. Please note, benefits eligibility determined the month following date of hire.

This job posting is for a temporary role as an employee of Atrium on assignment at GSK. The individual selected for this role will be offered the role as an employee of Atrium; compensation, medical benefits, fringe benefits and other terms and conditions of employment shall be presented by Atrium upon offer. The pay rate range provided is a reasonable estimate of the anticipated compensation range for this job at the time of posting. The actual pay rate will be based on several factors, including skills, competencies, experience, educational degree obtained, location and/or being pursued and other job-related factors permitted by law.

In addition, this role will be eligible for overtime pay, in accordance with federal and state requirement.

Pay Rate Range: $21/hr to $40/hr
