Street Maintenance Worker I

POSITION DUTIES AND QUALIFICATIONS 

SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

Maintains and repairs rights of way, alleyways, sidewalks, shoulders, curbs, and drainage ways. Removes debris, weeds, and brush and provides emergency service.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:*

Position Specific Summary

The Street Maintenance Worker I position at the City of Tucson’s Department of Transportation & Mobility, maintains and repairs city roadways including asphalt, streets, grounds, and sidewalks and may provide emergency services as needed.

Work is performed under the supervision of the Street Maintenance Supervisor. This position does not supervise.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

Prepares surfaces for asphalt repairs, including filling of potholes, spreading of asphalt, and sealing of cracks. Maintains city rights-of-way areas including shoulder, drainage ways, and curbs. Removes debris, weeds, and objects that may create road hazards if left unattended using shovels, rakes, and other small hand tools. 

Operates and maintains various hand and power tools, machines, light equipment, and licensed non-CDL vehicles involving pre and post-trip inspections, oil, and tire checks. Hauls loads of debris and hazardous materials found on streets, grounds, and sidewalks and sends them to landfills for disposal.

Responds to emergency service requests seasonally by setting up and taking down flood signs and barricades on streets, performing post-storm clean-up, and servicing bridges by de-icing with solvents to prevent accidents.  

Sidewalk Maintenance Assists Cement Masons in sidewalk projects by setting up and removing forms, mixing, and pouring of cement. 

Maintains the inventory of small tools in personal possession and returns them to the tool room at the end of the shift, ensuring tools are in good working order.   

Performs all other duties and tasks as assigned. 

 

Working Conditions

Indoor and outdoor work with heavy exposure to extreme physical, ergonomic, or emotional hazardous equipment.

 

Individuals in this position may be required to work on-call shifts to include nights and weekends.

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

High school diploma or equivalent

Work Experience:

One (1) year of directly related experience

License:

Valid and unrestricted Arizona Class D Driver License - Arizona Department of Transportation - Motor Vehicle Division

 

Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.

Full Hourly Range: $16.50 - 28.46 USD
