Surgical Technician

Surgical Direct partners with Hospitals, Surgery Centers, Ophthalmologists, and Optometrists to provide the highest quality equipment, supplies, and technical assistance for mobile ophthalmic procedures. 

Our goal is to provide our customers with the highest caliber of personalized service, while helping to minimize ongoing surgical equipment investments.  We depend on our surgical technicians to be punctual, prepared, and highly skilled with phaco and surgical techniques. 

Job Description for a Surgical Technician

Above all, attention to detail is essential.  Preparation before surgery guarantees all equipment and supplies are ready for successful surgical outcomes. 

Punctuality:

Technicians must be on time to the client site and respond in a timely manner to all communications from the office.   Surgical Technicians can expect to average 13 days a month in the operating room with occasional overnight travel. 

Preparedness:

Pack and load all equipment and supplies for surgery.  Verify inventory coming and going.  Keep all vans clean and maintenance up to date.  Follow schedule and respond to any changes.  Report modifications of doctor preferences to Operations Manager.  Keep warehouse clean and drawers in an orderly fashion.  Complete continuing education seminars for operating room policies and maintain hospital credentialing accounts as necessary (such as Reptrax). 

Job Skills:

Complete 90 day training period and pass exam.  Maintain certification of the following topics in regards to OR protocol:

1.           Occupational Safety and Health Administration Regulations as they pertain to Bloodborne Pathogens in the surgical operating room.

2.           Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act as it pertains to the medical profession in the surgical operating room.

3.           OR protocol, including Aseptic techniques and sterile fields, as it pertains to the medical profession in the surgical operating room.

4.           Fire and Electrical Safety as it pertains to the medical profession in the surgical operating room.

Surgical Technicians are also expected to maintain all equipment and supplies following training procedures.  Some equipment is very heavy.   Moving delicate equipment safely is part of the training process, but applicants must be physically fit.
