
LHSI Intern: ECHO Intern
Program Summary:
This internship is offered as a part of the Life-Health Sciences Internship Program (LHSI). This program connects 125 IU Indianapolis undergraduates per year with internships on campus with faculty and staff in a variety of health and science related campus areas/programs. All LHSI internships start in August 2025 and end in May 2026 and are paid $13/hour for up to 10 hours per week. Work-study is accepted but not required.

Overview of the internship site: Join the IU Indianapolis ECHO Center at the Richard M. Fairbanks School of Public Health to work directly with a multidisciplinary team of physicians, pharmacists, advanced practice providers, social workers, and public health leaders.
In this internship, you learn how to use technology to improve the health of people where they live, work, and play! LHSI interns with the IU Indianapolis ECHO Center will network with medical, behavioral, and public health providers through our innovative educational platform, Project ECHO. Project ECHO uses technology to create learning communities for healthcare providers across the state to increase access to care and reduce health inequities. The IU Indianapolis ECHO Center currently runs programs that focus on priority health issues in Indiana such as Hepatitis C, HIV, LGBTQIA+ care, Cancer Screening and Prevention, Comprehensive Pain Management, and Correctional Health.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Typical tasks in this internships will include joining professional meetings, assisting with live ECHO sessions, creating e-blast communications, data entry, and learning about important public health topics. Our work is always changing, so it is a great way to get involved with new initiatives as they arise!
Work Environment and Dress Code: The work is performed in an hybrid format with most days in the office and remote options available. Dress code is business casual.
Hours per week: flexible based on student needs (10 maximum), scheduling is flexible within regular work hours
Project-specific qualifications: An interest in learning more about public health in Indiana.
Ability to be open minded to new ideas and projects.
Ability to operate independently and in a team environment.
Ability to be organized and prepared to offer new ideas to projects.
Ability to communicate in a clear, timely, and effective manner.
Ability to successfully handle multiple assignments across different projects.
By the end of the LHSI program, you will:

LHSI Qualifications
· must be graduating May 2027 or after (usually a current freshman or sophomore in Spring 2025)
Current full time IU Indianapolis undergraduate in 2025-26
· minimum overall GPA of 2.0
· All majors welcome

All available sites are listed in Handshake and will start with the position title “LHSI Intern.” Complete the application for LHSI at go.iu.edu/lhsi and list 3-4 internship sites on that application. You will meet with at least 2 of these if selected for interviews.
