Compensation: Anticipated Starting Salary $53,380 - $56,520 per year, plus a comprehensive benefit package, which includes medical, dental, vision, life and LTD insurance, FSA, HRA, 403(b) retirement plan, paid holidays, personal business, sick leave, and vacation.
Summary
The Content Marketing Lead develops and executes a digital content strategy and editorial calendar across the Desert Museum’s owned and social media platforms, generating and overseeing creative editorial and visual content for the Museum’s social media channels, blog, and website. In addition, this position assists with content creation for email marketing, advertisements, and newsletters, and assists with marketing events.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities includes the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Digital Content Management
- Direct and execute a results and mission-driven digital content strategy for owned and social media.
- Create and manage the editorial and social media calendar and budget.
- Create, curate, and/or oversee the production of engaging and creative written and visual content for the website, blog, and social media that tells a compelling story designed to educate and enhance the visitor experience.
- Review analytics and report key metrics.
- Audit and evaluate metrics to regularly update content strategy and tactics.
- Assist with content creation for email marketing, advertisements, newsletters and others as assigned.
- Pursue opportunities for community partner collaboration and cross-promotion of digital content.
- Monitor social media and industry trends and evaluate new content marketing opportunities.
- Work with the webmaster to ensure web content is organized, updated, and aligned with the Museum’s communications priorities and brand voice, pursuing opportunities to improve SEO and content UX.
Social Media
- Work cross-departmentally to develop engaging and educational social media content.
- Attend events and produce social media content.
- Assist the Media and Marketing Manager with implementing paid social campaigns.
- Maintain unified brand voice across different social media channels.
- As needed, manage interns and volunteers.
Marketing
- Ensure content is fact-checked and appropriately sourced.
- Assist other departments in editing content for correct spelling and grammar.
- Assist the Marketing department with onsite events.
- Represent the Desert Museum at appropriate networking events and trade shows.
- Assist the Marketing & Media Manager with other ASDM special projects as assigned.

Qualifications

Education/Experience
Bachelor's Degree in journalism, communications, marketing, public relations, related field or equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum four years of related experience.
Language Skills
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have expertise with Microsoft Office Suite, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, MailChimp (or similar email marketing software), Wordpress blogging software, and productivity management tools. The individual should have proficiency with creative mediums including digital photography, video, and graphic design. Experience with Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom, and Premiere is a plus.
Other Skills and Abilities
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and copywriting skills.
- Passion for science communication, conservation, and storytelling.
- Deep understanding of the digital content ecosystem, including social media platforms and management software, blogging, and SEO tools.
- Proficiency with video, photography, photo editing, and graphic design tools.
- Basic understanding of SEO and content UX.
- Must be goal oriented and possess a high degree of self-motivation.
- Must possess strong planning, organization, and strategic-thinking skills.
- Impeccable time management skills with the ability to multitask.
- Flexible work style adapting to changing demands and priorities.
- Must be able to work independently as well as in a team setting.
- Ability to work well with internal and external clients.
- Understanding/familiarity with non-profit, visitor-based organization.
- Ability to work nights and weekends as required.
