Student: Engineering Assistant

The Space Dynamics Laboratory (SDL) is seeking a Student Engineer Assistant to aid full-time Engineers. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, manufacturing and testing Space Flight Hardware on short duration contracts and working with Quality Assurance to ensure customer requirements have been met and properly documented.

This is an onsite, year-round position in Logan, Utah. The duration of employment is expected to begin as soon as possible and continue until graduation.

Required Qualifications:

  • Must be at least a sophomore attending Utah State University pursuing a degree in mechanical engineering with a minimum of two years remaining in school (including graduate degrees)
  • Must be able to work 20 hours per week during semesters and up to 40 hours per week during breaks (SDL core hours are Monday-Friday from 8:00 AM-5:00 PM, most hours will be expected to be completed during these hours)
  • Willingness and ability to work graveyard shifts and weekends when certain testing is required
  • Basic understanding of heat transfer by conduction and radiation
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
  • Ability to identify and work through problems that may arise
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and CAD software
  • Ability to work with other team members for completion of required tasks
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision once trained
  • An understanding of when to seek direction in assigned tasks
  • Ability to see the job through
  • Self-motivated and dependable
  • Detail oriented
  • Ability to quickly design parts using CAD software
  • Ability to balance work and school responsibilities
  • Must be a US citizen, lawful permanent resident of the US, or other US person
