Functional and Reconstructive Urology Research Fellowship

The Functional and Reconstructive Urology (FRU) Research Fellowship at the University of Colorado is a one-year, mentored research position offered annually to one qualified medical student, recent graduates, or FMGs interested in pursuing a urology residency. This position is open to those who have completed at least two years of medical school and are interested in urology.

Applicants are considered on a rolling basis. CU medical students and graduates interested in urology are given priority.  The FRU research fellowship is at the University of Colorado Hospital, where researchers participate in innovative research projects in Functional and Reconstructive Urology throughout the year. By participating in leading innovative research studies and attending urology trainee teaching rounds, researchers learn the fundamentals of urology and what it takes to be an academic urologist. Researchers build strong relationships while working directly with and receiving mentorship from the world-renowned faculty at one of the most robust FRU programs in the nation. The FRU researcher's responsibilities include IRB application preparation and submission, management of clinical studies, abstract and manuscript production, and presentations at urology conferences. Past FRU fellows have achieved presentations at national and regional meetings, first-author publications in top journals, and matched into their desired residency positions.

Our FRU research program is committed to recruiting and supporting a diverse student body, faculty, and administrative staff. We aspire to build a team that thrives on trust and respect for all through inclusive practices and policies. Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for visa sponsorship now or in the future.

If you are a CU student, you have the option to take a Scholar's Year, meaning that you will not need to take a year off from your medical education, rather you will substitute one year of regular curriculum by participating in the fellowship.
