General Purpose: The Communications Internship is an opportunity for a current IU Indianapolis student to represent the Office of Student Employment (OSE) and promote the services, programs, and events hosted by the office. The focus of this position is to provide communication support to OSE through website editing; research and develop content for the office’s three (3) newsletters delivered using Marketing Cloud; write, edit and publish monthly podcast stories; and create marketing materials for the Office. There is the potential for this position to take on special projects throughout the year.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Broken down by percentage (percentages subject to change throughout the year)
- 30% - Website – create, update and upload various content for office’s 3 websites via the Web Content Management System.
- 25% –Newsletters - research, write content, edit, and publish the three (3) OSE newsletters using Salesforce Marketing Cloud.
- 25% - Podcasts - develop content, interview, capture, edit, transcribe and publish on our website.
- 15% - Marketing create print media and job aids for Office of Student Employment events, programs, and functions which could include: Infographics; training materials and content; marketing materials; badges and tip sheets.
- 5% - Special Projects develop and create content for OSE with other student employment staff, interns and may collaborate on group projects or assignments when necessary.
Intern will participate in the On-Campus Internship Program
This internship is offered as a part of the On-Campus Internship Program and aims to connect IU Indianapolis undergraduate sophomores and juniors with internships on-campus with faculty and staff in a variety of campus areas/programs. Internships start in August and end in May at up to fifteen hours per week. Interns will be required to obtain at least one academic credit in the academic year while participating in their internship experience and will have a site visit from the Office of Student Employment during their experience. On-going coaching and feedback on performance will be provided by internship supervisors according to a strict timeline of the program. Specific internship projects and duties will vary by internship. Students in this program will be expected to participate in a public showcase of learning at the end of academic year to highlight their experience at the Engaged Learning Showcase and will be required to participate in additional development throughout the year. In the future, students will be able to indicate their On-Campus Internship experience on their IU Indianapolis Experiential and Applied Learning Record.
Desired Minimum Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
- Enrolled as a student at IU Indianapolis
- Must be a sophomore or junior and in good academic standing
- Experience tailoring communication to different groups and audiences preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Strong written communication skills.
- Strong time-management skills
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Word, Teams, Excel, PowerPoint, Kaltura, and Adobe Suite, Canva
- Comfortable with frequent communication using Microsoft Teams regarding project participation and progress
- Ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
- Ability to professionally communicate student perspectives to staff and administrators.
- Ability to learn new technology in support of events, marketing tactics, and office support.
- Basic understanding of Office of Student Employment services, and explaining student employment opportunities on campus, and benefits of working through college
- Ability to positively represent IU Indianapolis and the Office of Student Employment in the office and at various events.
