STEM Chemistry Internship
In a Covestro STEM Internship you’ll work closely with some of the industry’s best and brightest managers and scientists in one of the Business Entities of Covestro.
You will learn about Covestro products, which can include their chemistry, applications, end uses, customer base, and future business opportunities. You will get a hands-on experience in a research and development environment, as well as an up-close view of our technical and commercial operations. You will be able to apply your knowledge and education to actual R&D projects through support of new product/technology development that helps solving real world problems. From next generation elastomers to materials for insulation, or high-performance coatings, opportunities abound for ground-breaking R&D that lets you be creative and imaginative yet analytical and precise.
You’ll contribute to ongoing projects getting an intimate look at how Covestro identifies customer needs and keeps the flow of new and established products moving through the marketplace. The internship program will begin in mid-May of 2025, and lasts approximately 12 weeks.
Some responsibilities within a technical based internship at Covestro includes supporting our business entities’ new application and product development teams through formulation, processing, design and testing of Covestro materials and applications. More specifically you may work on the following: lab evaluation projects, lab analyses and trials for process optimization, raw material evaluations, new products and plant troubleshooting to develop, improve and service the company’s products, or evaluation of potential products, raw materials and equipment by conducting lab bench work.
The selected individual will have the opportunity to work with chemists and engineers in a fast-paced environment and become actively involved in supporting of new development. Additionally, you may support a specific team and work on internal projects related to part design, reaction or formulation chemistry in the laboratory, molding and finished part testing.
WHAT YOU OFFER
Basic Qualifications
- Enrollment in a Bachelor’s degree program with a focus in one of the following majors: Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Material Science, Mechanical Engineering or related STEM degrees
- Completion of Freshman year
- Willingness and ability to be placed in any of the aforementioned internship opportunities
- Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above
Preferred Qualifications
- Completion of Sophomore year preferred
- Prior internship/work experience preferred
Skills and Knowledge
- Demonstrated PC skills and ability to work within Microsoft Office programs, specifically Excel
- Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills including an ability to interact and establish strong working relationships with diverse individuals
- Project coordination with the ability to be proactive and identify creative, effective technical solutions
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
