Senior Clinical Lab Specialist

The Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Laboratory is a full-service laboratory accredited by the American Association of Veterinary Laboratory Diagnosticians and member of the National Animal Health Laboratory Network (NAHLN). It provides in-depth laboratory diagnostic support to veterinary practitioners, livestock and poultry industry interests, companion animal interests, wildlife conservationists, scientists utilizing animals in their research throughout the university, state and regulatory officials, and clinicians of the MU Veterinary Health Center. The laboratory handles more than 200,000 specimens a year and serves Missouri’s 114 counties and surrounding states by performing over 170,000 diagnostic tests annually. The VMDL also conducts fundamental and applied research to address animal health and public health issues.
The Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Laboratory (VMDL) is seeking to hire a Senior Clinical Lab Specialist.
Representative Duties Include:
- Perform various diagnostic immunological and/or serological tests on animal samples (blood, fluid, tissue, etc.) submitted by VMDL clients to the Serology Section. Tests include, but not limited to, enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), agar gel immunodiffusion (AGID), tube or plate agglutination, cell culture and virus propogation, serum neutralization, and immunofluorescnce tests.
- Comply with VMDL's QA policies and rules, such as following specific SOPs issued by the VMDL and the laboratory section.
- Manage laboratory section's quality assurance documents, such as monitoring the temperature of various equipment, the performance of control reagents and equipment, client feedback, etc.
- Communicate with clients and colleagues in other laboratory sections regarding laboratory test procedures and results.
- Order appropriate reagents and supplies for testing.
- Set up, operate and maintain apparatus and equipment used in the section.
- Assist the section head in designing and revising the sections SOPs, forms, and other QA documents.
- Asist the section head in preparing section reports, analyzing diagnostic tests, and troubleshooting.
- Assist the section head in managing and training new staff and students working within the section.
- Perform additional tasks or work in other lab sections as necessary.
SHIFT
Full-time 40 hours per week (FTE 1.0). Occasionally staying after 5:00 pm may be required to service client needs.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree and at least 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
MS degree. Relevant working experience in a diagnostic serology/immunology laboratory is preferred.
ANTICIPATED HIRING RANGE
Salary Range $52,000.00 - $56,000.00/year, salary commensurate with education and experience
