Interns will be placed within a functional area related to their program of study. This is a paid internship program and will run full time for 12 weeks beginning in May.

 

OVERVIEW

The laboratory technician intern works with the laboratory personnel to prepare samples and perform and document microbiological and organoleptic analyses according to established SOPs. This role may also entail logging of samples and entry of data into the laboratory management system.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare samples for analysis by recording, weighing and blending, and testing samples according to SOPs
  • Execute microbiological testing according to the analysis process being performed
  • Execute physical and organoleptic product analysis per established SOPs
  • Maintain records of all quality activities as documented in procedures and test methods
  • Notify Quality Lab Manager of any deviations or potential nonconformances at any time
  • Performs other testing or duties as assigned

 

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, i.e. Excel, Word, PowerPoint
  • Attention to detail and demonstrated time management skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Initiative, resourcefulness, and strong interpersonal skills
  • Have a curious, proactive and solution-oriented approach
  • Desire to learn and grow professionally
  • Creative and innovative ideas
  • Ability to take direction and multi-task
  • Demonstrated ability to exhibit a positive attitude, professional image and demeanor

 

EDUCATION

  • Upperclassman (incoming Junior or Senior) at an accredited College or University
  • Desired Majors: Chemistry, Biology, Microbiology, Food Science
  • Preferred Minimum GPA: 3.0

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Ability to stand for extended periods of time, performance of repetitive tasks utilizing arms, hands, and fingers, ability to lift 50 lbs
