Community Service Officer

SUMMARY:

The Community Service Officer (CSO) Division is designed to assist the Patrol Division in performing all the tasks which are necessary and service oriented by nature.  This assistance will afford relief to the Patrol Division in order that the beat officers can better provide the police services and functions for the City of Lockport.

 

Department:  Police Department 

Type of Position:  Full-time

Hours:  40 hours/week 

FLSA Status:  Non-Exempt

Reports to:  Deputy Chief of Police

Hourly Pay Range: $17.00 to $20.00 per hour (DOQ)

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Essential duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them if the work is similar, related or logical to the position.

  • The enforcement of parking violations throughout the City.
  • The direction of traffic at accident scenes and other locations.
  • Conduct traffic counts and surveys.
  • Preparing simple reports, i.e. lost property.
  • Relief in office, for breaks etc.
  • Assist with transportation of police vehicles for maintenance, repairs, etc.
  • Making bank deposits, mail transfers, and other types of deliveries.
  • Handling of simple dog calls when an animal officers is not available.
  • Substitute for crossing guards when they are not available.
  • Providing general assistance to the public.
  • Assisting with Crime Prevention activities.
  • Handling light maintenance in house of an emergency nature or occasionally light janitorial duties.
  • Motorist Assist including disabled vehicles and vehicle lock outs.
  • Perform other miscellaneous tasks/duties, as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or GED Equivalent
  • Valid drivers license
  • At least 18 years old
  • Must acquire and maintain all necessary certifications; including, but not limited to LEADS Certification
