
Hourly LRAM Heavy Equipment Operator
POSITION SUMMARY
An Hourly LRAM Heavy Equipment Operator position is available at Schofield Barracks, HI with Colorado State University (CSU) and the Center for Environmental Management of Military Lands (CEMML). The position is located in Schofield Barracks, HI. These positions cannot exceed 9 months, but opportunities for permanent positions may become available during or after a temporary assignment. These positions are contingent on continued project funding at Schofield Barracks Remote work is not allowed for this position.
The position will provide Land Rehabilitation and Maintenance (LRAM) support for US Army Garrison (USAG) Hawaii at Schofield Barracks. This position will operate heavy equipment such as: Dozers, skid steers, front-in loaders, vibratory compactors, scrapers, forestry mowers (FECON), track hoes, agricultural tractors, and back hoes for the purpose of completing LRAM projects. Primary functions are soil stabilization and vegetation management on Army lands. This position will also require operational maintenance and inspections on all equipment for operational readiness and safety, tracking and preparing weekly progress reports
Work will be on-site at Schofield Barracks and its associate sub-installations, Oahu, Hawaii. Located 20 miles from Honolulu on the plateau or "central valley" of Oahu between the two volcanic mountains that comprise the island, the nearly 18,000-acre installation is home to the U.S. Army Garrison, Hawaii.
ORGANIZATION
CEMML is a research, education, and service unit within the Warner College of Natural Resources at CSU. CEMML applies the latest and most appropriate science to promote the sustainable management of natural and cultural resources on Department of Defense (DoD) and other public lands. REQUIRED JOB QUALIFICATIONS
• Ability to work in-person at Schofield Barracks, HI.
• High school Diploma, GED, or equivalent
• 2 Years experience with running and maintaining heavy equipment.
• Ability to work outdoors and perform strenuous labor under all weather conditions (e.g., heat and humidity, rain)
• Ability to lift up to 40 pounds repeatedly without assistance.
• Ability to follow directions, work collectively with others as a team, and maintain safe working standards.
• Proficient verbal and written English communication skills.
• Must have a valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain a driver’s license by the employment start date.
• The successful candidate must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. by proposed start date; CEMML will not provide visa sponsorship for this position.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
• Experience working on military lands
• Knowledge and experience necessary to facilitate:
o Gravel and Aggregate Application
o Rip Rap Application
o Cut and Fill
o Soil Compaction
o Crowning Trails
o Outsloping/Insloping Trails
o Grading/Shaping
o Ditch Line Establishment/Maintenance (Tactical use trails) and installing/maintaining Low Water Crossings
o Creating and/or Maintaining Turnouts and Diversion Ditches along tactical use maneuver and movement Trails
• Experience with land rehabilitation, horizontal construction techniques, and erosion control practices specific to State and/or EPA approved Best Management Practices (BMPs) required to achieve compliance with the Clean Water Act (CWA)
• Experience running and maintaining heavy equipment such as:
o 10-to-25-ton dump trucks
o Dozers
o Motor graders
o Skid steers
o Front-in loaders
o Forestry mowers (FECON)
o Agricultural tractors
o Back hoes
ANNUAL SALARY RANGE
Hourly pay range is $28 - $30/hour.
