Intern Trainee - GIS Technician Trainee
Kind of Work
The primary purpose of this position will be assisting with special GIS projects in the Public Works Department, which will include, but are not limited to:
- Building and editing GIS Databases
- Creating and managing outline and mobile maps and applications
- Collecting field data
- Creating maps for printing
Additional Information:
- This Internship will tentatively start in January 2025 and end in May/June 2025.
- Ability to work up to 37.5 hours per week.
- The workday is from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with flexibility around school schedules.
- The successful applicant will be required to pass a physical, drug test and background check.
- Above hourly rate reflects the 2025 wage rate.
Distinguishing Features of Work
The Intern Trainee classification is used to provide internship placements for students who seek a practical work experience in their academic field of study.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Pass/Fail):
- Applicants must be a Junior, Senior or Graduate student in Geographical Information Systems (GIS), geography, computer science, information technology, or related field of study (all degrees must include course work in GIS); OR, must have graduated from a relatedĀ four-year degree program within the last six months.
- Possession of a valid driver's license
SPECIAL SKILLS:
The ability to navigate and work independently on highways and streets. Strong computing skills/GIS software experience is preferred.
