Financial Planning and Analysis Intern

Job Description

 

What’s Financial Planning & Analysis? The Financial Planning and Analysis team conducts budgeting, financial planning, analysis modeling, forecasting, reporting, development of business financial metrics and continuous improvement to ensure Wellmark remains financially sound, generates cash and surplus to reinvest in its core business functions to support ongoing operations.

What team deliverables might I support?   Although subject to change, examples of work are included below:

  • Support the Financial Planning and Analysis team with updates to existing budgets
  • Extract data and prepare monthly reports for team use
  • Prepare journal entries and support analysis
  • Performs routine tasks under direct supervision and within established procedures and guidelines
  • Applies foundational functional knowledge to produce work deliverables in support of departmental initiatives
  • Assist with the implementation of the new financial planning tool

This internship will start in May of 2025, working a hybrid schedule from our headquarters in Des Moines, Iowa. You may then have the opportunity to transition part-time in the fall of 2025.  

Qualifications

 

  • Current student pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or related major
  • Ability to analyze and interpret financial data to produce accurate reports
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative and work on multiple task
  • Proven problem solving, innovation, and technical adaptation skills
  • Ability to work independently and clearly communicate results
  • Demonstrated computer skills in Microsoft Excel and Access
  • Available to work 10-20 hours/week during the academic year
  • Available to work 40 hours/week during the summer

Preferred:
Prior internship or office experience and 2+ years of college preferred, but will consider all candidate applications
