Corrections Counselor I
Position Summary:
Member of the Unit Team that provides case management of residents related to the correctional rules and regulations; develops educational and reentry plans; participates on related unit team committees; writes progress reports on residents for review by unit team supervisor/manager. Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:
- Responsible for performing all duties through a team approach to risk management that addresses criminogenic risks and needs.
- The work requires ongoing proactive communication and interaction with residents.
- Assists residents assigned to case load with adjustment to incarceration, program completion, rule compliance, release planning and reintegration into the community.
- Utilizes and demonstrates risk reduction skills including motivational interviewing and cognitive strategies.
- Attends Kansas Parole Board hearing for assigned residents.
- Assists uniformed security staff in times of emergency.
