EDITORIAL ASSISTANT INTERN Griot Media- Austin's Premier Black Digital Media Platform

Position Overview: We're seeking a detail-oriented Editorial Assistant intern to support our digital media team. This role offers hands-on experience in digital journalism and content creation for Austin's leading Black culture platform.

Editorial Responsibilities:

  • Assist in content editing and proofreading
  • Support story research and fact-checking
  • Help manage editorial calendar
  • Write and edit social media copy
  • Draft articles and news stories
  • Assist with community event coverage
  • Help manage website content
  • Support newsletter creation
  • Contribute to content strategy

Required Qualifications:

  • Current student or recent graduate in Journalism, Communications, or related field
  • Strong writing and editing skills
  • Experience with social media platforms
  • Understanding of Black culture and community issues
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work independently

Preferred Skills:

  • Previous experience with digital media platforms
  • Knowledge of SEO best practices
  • Familiarity with Austin's Black community and culture
  • Experience with content management systems
  • Basic understanding of AP style
