Cafe Manager
Position Summary:
The Cafe Manager is responsible for the effective and efficient daily operations of the Riverview Terrace Cafe (the cafe) in support of Taliesin Preservation’s food service requirements. The Cafe Manager provides supportive leadership to cafe staff throughout food service.
Essential Functions:
- Supervise daily cafe operations, including front and back of house;
- Oversee recipe and menu development ensuring quality, presentation, and including the use of local ingredients when possible;
- Manage food ordering and receiving;
- Monitor and mitigate food waste;
- Hire, manage, and schedule café staff, ensuring appropriate staffing levels;
- In conjunction with the Director of Finance, create and monitor the annual cafe budget;
- Ensure the kitchen is properly maintained, meets all regulatory, licensing, and safety requirements, and adheres to all sanitation regulations. Make recommendations on required equipment maintenance;
- Collaborate with the team on in-house catering for group tours, workshops, and private entertaining;
- Continue to grow relationships with community food producers and integrate their products into the cafe menus when feasible; and
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- 3-5 years of restaurant management experience;
- Accredited Food Manager certification or ability to obtain within two months of start date;
- Demonstrated experience training others in any capacity;
- Ability to work within an established budget for staffing and food costs;
- Computer proficiency at an intermediate level, including the ability to create and work with online forms and spreadsheets;
- Strong oral and interpersonal communication skills and demonstrated success in collaborating with diverse groups of employees and customers;
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks, maintain flexibility, and balance changing priorities;
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends;
Preferred Qualifications:
- Advanced teaching and/or facilitation skills;
- Farm-to-table experience;
- Experience in a non-profit environment;
- A knowledge of the life and work of Frank Lloyd Wright, Taliesin, and the mission of Taliesin Preservation.
