Job Summary:

This recruitment will be used to fill one full-time Temporary Biological Sciences Research Technician 1 position for the Department of Horticulture at Oregon State University (OSU ).

This position will assist with research at the USDA ARS National Clonal Germplasm Repository in Corvallis by maintaining plant germplasm collections in the field setting. Most of the activities will take place outside with limited indoor work. Driving and operating of machinery, such as tractors, utility vehicles, weed whackers, mowers, etc. is required.

Key Responsibilities

100% Maintaining field collections and property

• Preform pruning, weed whacking, mowing, planting, removing plantings, fertilizing, spraying herbicides
• Position will be trained to use to use tractors, mowers, and power tools (weed whackers, pruners, etc.)
• Complete standard WPS and safety training.
• Contribute to a welcoming working environment that fosters diversity and inclusion.

Oregon Pesticide Apprentice License
Commitment to working collaboratively with diverse groups of students, researchers, and staff.
This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per University Standard: 05-010 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.

This position requires driving a university vehicle or a personal vehicle on behalf of the university; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a motor vehicle history check, possess and maintain a current, valid driver’s license in their state of residence, be determined to be position qualified and self-report convictions as per University Policy 05-030.

What We Would Like You to Have

Four-year college degree in following fields: ecology, horticulture, rangeland science, soil science, chemistry, or biology

Working Conditions / Work Schedule

This position requires lifting 50 lbs., working outdoors in the elements, standing and crouching for extended periods of time. The work schedule will primarily be weekdays with very occasional weekend work (dependent on the weather and tasks to accomplish). Field work is conducted during winter. Temperature during fieldwork can range anywhere between 0-100+ degrees F. The employee will operate motor vehicle to research sites
