Climate Change Officer

We are looking for a Climate Change Officer to lead and implement sustainability and climate resilience strategies across Planate’s global portfolio. This is a remote position that involves collaborating with staff, clients, and partners to integrate climate change considerations into our operations, policies, and projects, ensuring alignment with sustainability goals. The ideal candidate will drive the development of actionable strategies to address climate risks, advocate for climate resilience, and guide the organization in achieving long-term environmental, economic, and social outcomes.

Responsibilities:

 

  • Integrate climate change into corporate strategy by collaborating with leadership to define and embed the organization’s position on climate change into its structure and operations.
  • Enhance climate change messaging by leading the creation of clear, credible messaging on climate change, positioning the organization as a resource for stakeholders.
  • Advocate for sustainability by promoting the alignment of sustainability practices with organizational operations, strategic planning, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Develop policies and procedures by establishing governance structures and internal policies to identify and mitigate climate-related risks and leverage climate opportunities.
  • Lead education initiatives by facilitating workshops and training sessions for staff and stakeholders on sustainability and climate resilience.
  • Monitor global climate policy by staying up to date on global policy developments and regulations that impact stakeholders’ economic, environmental, and social conditions.
  • Implement climate resilience in projects by guiding teams to integrate climate considerations into transportation, energy, utility, and urban development projects.
  • Manage climate change risks by identifying and assessing climate-related risks and developing strategies to optimize resource consumption (e.g., energy, water, land) for clients.
  • Support carbon offset programs by evaluating and validating client programs for carbon offsets, renewable energy credits, and assisting with greenhouse gas emissions management.
  • Provide expert guidance on projects by advising on the execution of projects that mitigate or adapt to climate change, ensuring they align with sustainability goals.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Sustainability, Climate Science, Environmental Policy, Urban Planning, or related field. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years in sustainability, climate resilience, or climate preparedness with proven success in developing and executing sustainability practices.
  • In-depth knowledge of climate mitigation, energy conservation, decarbonization, and environmental reporting.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels.
  • Expertise in sustainability project financing, cost-benefit analysis, and technical tools for sustainability planning.
  • Relevant certifications such as Certified Climate Change Professional (CC-P), LEED, Certified Sustainability Professional (CSP), or similar credentials are highly desirable.
