Assistant Turf Manager

                                                   Assistant Turf Manager

Role Summary

The Assistant Turf Manager is to aid the Turf Manager in preparing and maintaining the field. Included, but not limited to preparing skin, mound, plate, bullpens and dugouts. Along with these responsibilities this person will oversee the game staff and tarp staff.  This is a full-time exempt position that will include weekdays and weekends when needed.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Preparing skin, mound, plate, bullpens to regulation for use by players.
  • Mow field on a regular basis.
  • Maintain upkeep for indoor batting cage. (trash, patch mounds, vacuum carpets)
  • Setup and breakdown batting practice equipment.
  • Clean dugouts after every game.
  • Clean shop and tunnel.
  • Schedule and organize crew for daily job assignments.
  • Assist in fertilizer and fungicide program development and application.
  • Perform regular maintenance for equipment.
  • Perform repairs on irrigation system as needed.
  • Give input on a regular basis.
  • Assist head groundskeeper when needed.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Assistant Groundskeeper should have a bachelor’s or associate degree in turf or horticulture related program from a credited college.
  • Two years’ experience dealing with an athletic field at a professional level.
  • Good knowledge of disease, insects and fertilizers.

 

Skills and Competencies

  • Ability to execute a number of tasks at the same time and working well under pressure.
  • Extremely organized with great attention to detail.
  • Impeccable communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization.

 

Working Environment/Physical Requirements 

  • Constantly standing, walking, bending, and stooping to maintain the field.
  • Constantly using motorized and unmotorized tools using hands and fingers to maintain the field.
  • Must be able to lift/push/pull up to 50 pounds.
  • Long hour days during season (sixteen-hour days are common during season).
  • Field maintenance is outdoors and exposed to all weather situations (extreme cold, heat, rain)
