Corporate Tax Intern

Interns will be given the opportunity to get hands-on experience with real work projects, build meaningful relationships and connections within the organization, and experience our mission and enterprise goals through our program curriculum centered on our leadership model (Personal, People, Thought, and Results Leadership). Our Summer 2025 Internship is June 9th or June 16th through August 15th, 2025. 

 

Application Process and Timeline:

  • November: If you meet the requirements, you will receive an invitation to complete a Pre-Recorded Video Interview
  • November - January: 2nd round interviews & offers extended

 

As an intern at Blue Shield of California, you will:

  • Participate in impactful projects during a 10-week internship program
  • Undertake a 10-week curriculum designed to familiarize interns with BSC, leadership development, exposure to the healthcare industry, and more
  • Be invited to participate in BSC employee events and networking opportunities such as Employee Resource Groups, employee volunteer activities, and more

 

General Requirements:

  • Must reside in the state of California for the duration of the internship
  • Hybrid requirements - Preferably live within a 50-mile radius of a BSC office and be available for in-office collaboration 2 times per month
  • Must currently be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program at the time of the internship, with a graduation date of December 2025 or later

 

Your Role

The Corporate Tax team oversees our tax compliance, tax provision, and tax reporting functions and responsibilities at Blue Shield of CA. The Corporate Tax Intern will report to a Tax team leader. In this role you will play a key role as part of the Corporate Tax team in delivering and collaborating on all aspects of operational expense, quality improvement, and health transformation initiatives.

 

Your Work

In this role, you will:

  • Work within Corporate tax organization to further automate the tax compliance process
  • Support the tax compliance, tax provision and tax reporting process at the  legal entity level
  • Support the determination of tax reporting for more than 20 legal entities within the federal Consolidated Return with a focus on the automation of tax data sets
  • Support the translation of Consolidated Financial statements into the 20+ legal reporting entities
  • Learn key components to member program operations and will help in day-to-day operations and program improvements

 

Qualifications

 

Your Knowledge and Experience

  • Currently pursuing an undergraduate or preferably a graduate degree with an emphasis in taxation, accounting and/or healthcare highly desirable
  • Strong Accounting with working understanding of financial statements - income statement and balance sheet
  • A robust analytical skill set (Microsoft Excel proficiency)
  • Knowledge of healthcare ecosystem; health plan and payer economics is preferred

 

Pay Range:

The pay range for this role is: $25.00 to $30.00 for California.

Note:

Please note that this range represents the pay range for this and many other positions at Blue Shield that fall into this pay grade. Blue Shield salaries are based on a variety of factors, including the candidate's experience, location (California, Bay area, or outside California), and current employee salaries for similar roles.

Physical Requirements:

 Office Environment - roles involving part to full time schedule in Office Environment. Due to the current public health emergency in California, Blue Shield employees are almost all working remotely. Based in our physical offices and work from home office/deskwork - Activity level: Sedentary, frequency most of work day.
