ABOUT THE ROLE
This position will work with students who are deaf or hard of hearing to provide in-depth psychological services with the goal of helping students succeed academically, socially, behaviorally, and emotionally. Professionals in this position are tasked with successfully providing individual and group counseling services while maintaining documentation of direct services. This position will be responsible for intervention as it relates to the implementation and evaluation of programs to promote positive learning environments for all students from diverse backgrounds, and to ensure equal access to effective educational and psychological services that promote positive mental health development.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Master’s degree or higher degree in any area of counseling or social work.
- Must be eligible to obtain a Provisional Certificate in School Counseling by completing the application process and meeting all requirements assigned by the Alabama State Department of Education within the first three years of employment.
- Must exhibit excellent communication skills
- Must demonstrate competency in working with both sensory impaired and non-sensory impaired (i.e. staff/parents).
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Master’s degree or higher in the area of School Counseling, Mental Health Counseling, LCSW, LMSW, LPC or related counseling degree.
- A valid Class A or Class AA Professional Educator Certificate in School Counseling.
- Successful work experience in the field of counseling.
- Knowledge of and experience with students who are deaf or hard of hearing.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
- Uphold the professionalism and ethical standards of psychologists/counselors.
- Acts as an advocate for students.
- Completes family centered interviews.
- Acts as coordinator in sharing and interpreting information about student's needs and concerns as related to psychological issues within FERPA and HIPAA guidelines.
- Engages in professional growth and development activities.
- Responds to crises in accordance with AIDB guidelines (includes willingness to be called after hours in case of emergency).
- Demonstrates an ability to organize and complete tasks on a timely basis.
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule to include evenings and weekends.
- Performs other duties, including cross-campus responsibilities, as assigned by the Director of Psychology.
- Must possess a sign language proficiency of SURVIVAL upon employment. SURVIVAL PLUS must be obtained within the first twelve (12) months of employment. INTERMEDIATE must be obtained within the first twenty- four (24) months of employment. INTERMEDIATE PLUS must be obtained within the first thirty-six (36) months of employment.
- Upon offer of employment, the applicant must submit to a fingerprint background check at an agency designated and paid for by AIDB.
SALARY: $49,520 - $66,061 Scale D2 Rank 56 MA/Provisional Certificate
$59,916 - $81,851 Scale E2 Rank 61 Class AA Professional Educator Certificate
$65,766 - $88,336 Scale E2 Rank 62 Class AA Professional Educator Certificate with Doctoral Degree
