SIP 2025 - Health Equity and Social Justice Public Health Intern (Off Campus) at Cleveland Department of Health
Cleveland Department of Public Health (CDPH) provides a range of services aimed at promoting healthy behaviors; preventing diseases and injuries; ensuring access to safe food, clean air, and life-saving immunizations; and preparing for and responding to public health emergencies.
Note: In-person interviews will be conducted on Feb. 28, 2025, at West and Metro. These interview fairs are your only opportunity to meet and interview with hiring supervisors.
The HESJ Public Health Intern will support various initiatives within the organization's public health programs. This internship provides an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in public health research, program development, implementation, and evaluation.

the Office of Mental Health and Addiction Recovery (OMHAR) is part of the Health Equity and Social Justice Division of the Cleveland Department of Public Health. OMHAR offers two forms of support to the community:
Mental Health Resource Support & Overdose Prevention
Qualifications in Health Equity, Minority Health, and Social Justice Advocacy:
Familiarity with health equity principles, social determinants of health, and strategies for addressing health disparities.
Understanding minority health issues, including cultural considerations, barriers to care, and community engagement approaches.
Knowledge of evidence-based practices for mental health promotion, substance abuse prevention, maternal and child health services, and HIV/STI prevention and treatment.
Commitment to advancing health equity, promoting social justice, and advocating for equitable healthcare policies and programs.
Preferred Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in a degree program in public health, epidemiology, health sciences, or a related field.
- Strong research skills with experience in completing literature reviews, data collection, and analysis.
- Knowledge of public health principles, theories, and best practices or theories and best practices as they relate to programs within the HESJ Division.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and statistical analysis software (e.g., SPSS, SAS, R).
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
- Commitment to public health advocacy, equity, and social justice.

Program Requirements
- Must be enrolled in current semester (Spring 2025)
- Must enroll in a minimum of one Summer 2025 course
- Must be returning to Tri-C for Fall 2025 Semester
- Must have a declared major on record
This position is part of the Cuyahoga Community College Summer Internship Program.
