Accountant

Position Summary: 

The accountant’s portfolio will consist of closed-end private equity investments in various asset types:  commercial and residential real estate, loan portfolios, operating companies, and marketable securities.  This individual will be responsible for recording journal entries for investment activities, i.e., acquisitions, income/expense recognition, contributions, distributions, allocations of income, and dispositions within complex domestic and foreign deal structures.  To be successful in this position, the individual must have the skillset necessary to produce quality output in a fast-paced team environment. 

 

Essential Functions: 

  • Preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual US GAAP financial statements
  • Coordinate with accounting service provider to appropriately record investment activity
  • Coordinate with other departments to gain understanding of transactions 
  • Assist in preparation of audit requests and respond to external audit queries 
  • Prepare waterfalls for cash fundings and distributions
  • Record cash transactions throughout investment structures and perform cash reconciliations
  • Perform wire transfers between bank accounts
  • Perform bank account maintenance including coordinating new account set up, downloading statements, and closing accounts
  • Perform ad hoc and special projects as assigned

 

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Experience in general ledger i.e., posting, review, and reconciliations
  • High attention to detail when performing assignments
  • Excellent communication skills both oral and written
  • Exhibit strong work ethic and commitment to producing great end results
  • Self-starter with the ability to multi-task 
  • Prioritize work and properly manage time 

 

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting 
  • Graduate Degree preferred
  • CPA preferred

 

Experience:

  • 0-3 years of professional accounting experience required

 

Other Skills:

  • Proficiency in Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint (Microsoft Office Suite)
  • Intermediate/Advanced Excel knowledge, including ability to summarize data via formulas, lookups, sumifs, pivot tables, conditional formatting, etc.
  • Proficiency in Oracle or similar accounting software
  • Hyperion Essbase/Smartview experience preferred
  • Familiarity with various entity types: Real Estate Investment Trusts, partnerships, corporations, etc

 

Work Environment:

  • Professional office environment 
  • Hours vary depending on business activity, but are generally 40 or more hours a week
  • Hybrid work schedule, 60% in office, 40% work from home

 

Travel Requirements:

  • This position does not require travel.
