Tri-Alliance Financial Analyst

Job Summary:
Reporting to the Associate Vice Provost for Sponsored Programs and External Partnerships, the Financial Analyst is responsible for assisting with all aspects of financial analysis of the Universities research portfolio in order to ensure accurate expenditures for grant projects, including indirect costs projections, and gathering institutional data related to reporting research expenditures.
This is a temporary position funded by a federal grant from the National Science Foundation as part of the Tri-Alliance project with Santa Clara University and Loyola Marymount University. (Grant funded 2024-2029)

Full Job Description:

Essential responsibilities include:

• Analyze current financial data for grants and research expenditures and provide forecasting support;
• Prepare monthly burn rate reports on active grants for Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) Grants and Contracts Administrators to work with principal investigators for necessary budget amendments, no cost extensions, and other necessary actions for full cost recovery of grant projects;
• Coordinates quarterly research expenditure reconciliation meetings with pre and post award offices to ensure accuracy of reports;
• Prepares Journals and Labor Redistributions to correct inaccurate charges;
• Prepare reports and projections based on analysis of internal and external research expenditures for quarterly and annual reports;
• Coordinates the coding of internal research expenditures within the finance system and makes recommendations for improvement of the process;
• Identifies trends in financial performance of grants and provides recommendations for process improvement to pre and post award offices;
• Coordinates with other members of the financial team and budget offices to review financial information for proposals and financial statements;
• Researches, analyzes and makes recommendations to pre and post award offices on process improvement tools and necessary policies;
• Prepares financial data for pre award quarterly and annual reports related to grant awards and indirect costs.

Skills and Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree; three years of work experience in higher education, preferably in the business and operations units.
• Three (3) years of progressive work experience performing related duties and responsibilities such as: preparing financial reports, conducting financial analysis, reconciling journal entries, and recording accounting entries for financial and grants-related transactions. The incumbent must have exceptional problem-solving, analytical, and written/verbal communication skills.

$85,000-$90,000 commensurate with experience
