Job Title: Senior Mechanical Engineer

 

Science, Engineering, Management Solutions LLC (Sem-Sol) is a small business in Albuquerque, NM on the forefront of science and industry. Our skilled scientists, engineers and technicians specialize in directed energy and pulsed power systems and use innovative technology to develop innovative solutions for a range of Department of Defense agencies and commercial industries.

 

Sem-Sol is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer who can translate novel and challenging problems into innovative and dynamic solutions. Our ideal candidate is someone who can take a project from concept to delivery while staying on time and within budget. You won’t be working alone – you’ll have a team to support you. That means that the senior mechanical engineer we need must also have the character and communication skills it takes to effectively work as part of a team, and when needed, lead the team.

So, to fit into our independent work environment, our senior mechanical engineer must have excellent prioritization and time management skills. Of course, a successful candidate will also have a strong knowledge of CAD software and drafting procedures.

 

Duties will include: 

  • Lead hardware realization efforts through design, analysis, procurement, assembly/integration, testing, and delivery of products to end customers.
  • Perform detailed analyses (structural, thermal, fluid, modal/shock/vibration) and provide supporting documentation/summaries that support design decisions to meet system requirements.
  • Support the development and documentation of mechanical requirements to establish a system design.
  • Support business proposal efforts with technical estimations, concept models, and cost/labor estimations.
  • Conduct and/or support technical program design reviews for internal and external customers.
  • Lead teams of engineers in technical execution toward program completion.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers for accurate accounting of engineering hours required for executing technical projects.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited college.
  • 10+ years’ experience in an engineering role.
  • 4+ years’ experience in lead engineering roles; project management experience a plus.
  • Proficient in 3D modeling environment, including 3D CAD software and finite element analysis (FEA) software.
  • Experience and familiarity with configuration management/product data management (PDM) tools.
  • Familiarity with fabrication methods associated with prototype realization (machine tools, welding, surface treatments, etc.).

Desired Skills/Experience/Qualifications:

  • At least 2,000 hours of SolidWorks experience, including detail and assembly design, incorporating fit, form, and functionality of designs.
  • Experience in SolidWorks 3D CAD software and associated PDM environment.
  • ANSYS Mechanical analysis software.
  • Drafting practices per ASME Y14.100.
  • Applied experience in Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) per ASME Y14.5.
  • Experience leading technical teams.
  • Experience with design of vacuum systems, pulsed power, or directed energy.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office products such as Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Skilled in managing multiple tasks and priorities in a dynamic work environment.
  • PhD or MS degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited college.
