Assistant Summer Manager - Summer 2025 - Work Study or Regular Pay

Position:  Assistant Summer Manager (ASM)

Salary: $600 per week, room and board included during active camp days
            
Major Responsibilities: PreCollege Programs is seeking self-motivated individuals who are team players to serve as Assistant Summer Managers for the Summer Academic Camps and Upward Bound programs. These individuals will take on all responsibilities in the absence of the Program Coordinator. Assistant Summer Managers are the direct line of communication for all Team Leaders and coordinators. ASMs supervise and ensure that the PreCollege Programs are running as safely and efficiently as possible. ASMs are also responsible for helping the Summer Manager plan all summer activities including Recreation and Academic Field Trips. Responsible for documenting and recording matters dealing with the Information Sharing Form (ISF). This position requires a commitment of 8 weeks. 

Position contingent on grant funding and program needs.

            Deliverables:

  • Participate in all PC summer trainings and serve as an Authorized Adult for camp youth participants
  • Able to stay overnight over the duration of camps
  • Ensure that the academic, experiential, and behavioral integrity of each Summer Camp is in alignment with the expectations and goals for the summer
  • Ability to lead in a fast-paced environment
  • Problem solve immediate concerns from Team Leader Coordinators and Team Leaders
  • Attend breakfast with campers and morning meetings to discuss issues of the day/week
  • Ensure that the residence hall is prepared at the start of camp
  • Ensure that all meal forms are properly filled out during meals, snacks
  • Ensure that health forms are accounted for at the beginning of camp
  • Ensure all outreach has occurred to families one week prior to camp beginning
    • Know who is being dropped off/picked up/riding a bus
  • Communicate with families when directed by PreCollege staff
  • Create a detailed plan for bus pick up/drop off – ensuring that chaperones know exactly what their role is and what their expectations are
  • Ensure that Team Leader Coordinators and Team Leaders are meeting deliverables
  • Ensure staff have what they need in order to do their job effectively (resources, strategies, work schedule, information)
  • Ensure ISF forms are organized and shared with Director, Associate Director and Summer Manager
  • Make copies of ISF forms and submit to Director’s mailbox/emailed every morning by 9:30am.
  • With other ASMs, manage ISF reporting on One Drive, include additional notes, and parties and individuals involved
  • If any complaints recorded in ISF, record information in the complaint log in the One Drive
  • Execute disciplinary action, as needed.  Must be able to diffuse any problem to the best of abilities that presents itself
  • Work on student dismissal forms via the student track sheet
  • Work with Media Coordinator to ensure communication with positive messages, timely posting of photos                     and completion of weekly tasks
  • Ensure that safety, rules and expectations of the camp are being met
    • Report to Summer Manager when challenges, issues, or moments when these expectations are not met
  • Participate in an individual employee professional development evaluation
  • Provide evaluation feedback of summer staff
  • Step in with on-sight duties, as needed

The PreCollege Program participates in high-impact practice methodology defined by the American Association of Colleges and Universities to create sustainable student success goals and monitor progress toward achieving equity to improve educational outcomes for all students. Empirical evidence shows that students involved in high-impact practices enjoy higher levels of learning success. Staff participate in an intentional reflection on organizational outcomes, develop a personalized comprehensive plan, and are evaluated by an association approved rubric based on what policymakers and employers demand.

University of Wisconsin – Whitewater Diversity Leadership Certificate:
PreCollege Program staff successfully satisfying the following employment opportunity will receive credit toward earning UW-Whitewater’s Diversity Leadership Certificate, if eligible; students are still required to communicate with the facilitator of the certification program for finalization. The certificate is designed to allow students across the disciplines, to engage in in-depth diversity learning around issues of gender, race, ethnicity, class, sexuality, and ability. Geared toward building responsible citizens and reflective professionals, the overall certificate uses curricular and cocurricular activities to enhance knowledge, develop facilitation skills, and engage in productive collaborations across differences. Assessed through artifacts submitted to an ePortfolio, students will gain skills at building inclusive environments and an ability to address complex social issues.

 

Potential Dates of Employment: Monday, June 2, 2025 – Friday, July 25, 2025. Minimum of one week to a maximum of ten weeks, dependent on position; employment dates subject to change. Required training scheduled in the week of Monday, June 2, 2025.
