Job Summary/Objective
Creates a vision, environment, and culture of academic success for all students that aligns with the School District of Lancaster's mission to educate students and ensure that all children reach their fullest social/emotional and academic potential. Establishes a positive school culture with high expectations for behavior, attendance, promotion/graduation, and achievement. Creates a positive school-building climate and builds a strong school community for students, staff, families, and the community at large. Develops staff members and cultivates school leadership.
Essential Functions/Duties
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
Instructional Leadership:
- Direct all aspects of planning and delivery of instruction
- Develop and monitor a School Improvement Plan that addresses root-cause issues using data and root-cause analysis
- Ensure that all teacher lesson plans align with district curriculum in a manner that take the needs and interests of the students into account, including students with IEPs and English Language Learners
- Integrate literacy and mathematics across the curriculum including the use of instructional technology in classrooms
- Manage and develop teachers and staff to maximize teacher and student outcomes
- Direct and collaborate with Coach(es) to plan and facilitate embedded professional development
- Identify, plan, and implement on-going training and support for new teachers
- Provide specific, meaningful, and timely feedback to teachers through use of the district on-site evaluation ("PAETEP") process
- Provide feedback to support staff through use of the district process
- Monitor staff attendance and follow established guidelines regarding attendance expectations to ensure appropriate staffing levels and a consistent instructional experience for students
- Develop plans to address specific areas of concern, including academic performance, student safety, attendance, tardiness, class cuts, and/or behavior
Organizational Leadership:
- Serve as the primary liaison between the District, school, and all stakeholders.
- Develop and administer policies, procedures, and rules
- Maintain, implement, and enforce all policies adopted by the Board and of the School District of Lancaster administration
- Establish and enforce rules and procedures to manage student behavior more effectively in classrooms and other school facilities. Supports teachers in the enforcement of these rules and procedures, especially with new teachers
- Ensure open lines of communication with all stakeholders
- Communicate school and classroom expectations to both staff and students in a clear and timely manner
- Communicate clearly and regularly with parents/guardians on a wide range of topics and ensures open lines of communication regarding school happenings, student progress, goals and accomplishments
- Meet with parents/guardians to discuss student-specific issues, including discipline, and associated consequences, impact, and planned follow-up.
- Be visible and available
- Monitor student behavior on an ongoing basis and model effective responses in classrooms, hallways, cafeteria, and other school environments, including school grounds before and after school
- Support teachers in creating learning environments with high expectations for student achievement
- Visit classrooms with substitute teachers to ensure lesson plans, seating charts, and resources are available and provide support, as needed
- Ensure that staff are visible and available
- Ensure that staff members monitor student behavior on an ongoing basis and provide effective responses in classrooms, hallways, cafeteria, and other school environments
- Implement and monitor all aspects of school operations according to Board Policy and District and individual school expectations to ensure a safe, efficient, and effective learning environment
- Assist with investigations involving teachers, staff, and/or students where and when needed
- Direct the development and administration of the operating budget of individual school(s), allocating resources equitably within budgetary limits and in alignment with the school vision

Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervisory responsibilities may include: managing and supervising direct reports; recruiting, screening, and interviewing candidates for hire; providing input for employee discipline and terminations; participation in employee training and development and annual reviews; monitoring and oversight of employee work performance; development of budgets; coordination of schedules.
Travel Requirements: Minimal day travel is expected for this position. No regular overnight travel is expected for this position.
Qualifications
Required:
- Experience:
- 5+ years of teaching/educational experience
- Leadership experience
- Education:
- Master's degree in Educational Leadership or related
- Licenses/Certifications
- K-12 Principal Certicate
Preferred:
- Experience:
- At least 3+ years as an Assistant Principal
- Experience in an urban educational setting
