Title: Upper School Mathematics - Long-term Substitute Teacher


 

NOTE: This position will begin in early April and continue through early June 2024.

The Role.  MVS is seeking an innovative and culturally inclusive long-term mathematics substitute teacher and advisor committed to developing inquisitive, critical thinkers, focused on understanding the ‘why’  behind mathematical principles versus the ‘how’ of following a formula.

  • And of course, you will get to Teach! As an upper school mathematics teacher, you will teach four sections ranging in content from algebra I through multivariate calculus.


 

Expectations: 

  • Establish a supportive and engaging environment for students;
  • Demonstrate a deep belief that teachers have a unique role in empowering students to become passionately inquisitive; 
  • Demonstrate a teaching proficiency and comfort with a variety of teaching methods and learning needs; most importantly supporting immersive, experiential learning;
  • Foster the belief in each of our students, that students can and will change the world
  • Build collaborative partnership with students, faculty, and parents;
  • Develop and facilitate culturally inclusive curricula and inclusive classroom practices;


 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Teach four sections of Mathematics. These include Algebra I (one section), Algebra II (two sections), and Probability & Game Theory (one section);
  • Serve as an advisor for a group of 10-12 students;
  • Report to the Upper School Division Director;


 

Qualifications:

  • Possess a desire to work with pre-teen and teenage students in an experiential setting;
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and parents;
  • Possess excellent communication skills;
  • Ideal candidates will possess prior experience teaching mathematics in upper and/or middle school settings, advising clubs, coaching athletics, and/or leading student travel learning programs;
  • Undergraduate or advanced degree(s) in Mathematics, or other related degree; 
  • Candidates without prior teaching experience will also be considered;
