Bridge Engineering College Intern 1/2/3/4
The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) Statewide Design and Engineering Services Bridge Section is looking for a College Intern 1/2/3/4 to help us Keep Alaska Moving!
What you will be doing:
Under close supervision, this position will assist in a variety of tasks with the Statewide Design and Engineering Services Bridge Section serving multiple roles including but not limited to: design assistant; bridge inspection assistant; hydraulic engineer assistant; and other duties as assigned. Depending on the level of coursework completed by the College Intern there will be exposure to various components of bridge specific structural analysis utilizing various editions the AASHTO Bridge Design Specifications in concrete design, steel design, pre-stressed concrete design, and load ratings. Travel within in the State should be expected on bridge and/or hydraulic inspection trips while being exposed to on-the-job training from bridge inspection team leaders.
The responsibilities and complexity of duties will increase with each level of the internship. College Interns 1 will focus on routine technical tasks tied to lower-division coursework. As interns progress to College Intern 2, they will take on more advanced tasks that support higher-level academic work. College Interns 3 will apply skills from upper-division coursework, tackling more responsible duties. At College Intern 4, interns will handle the most complex tasks requiring a deeper understanding of engineering principles directly related to their major.

The working environment you can expect:
This position focuses on work in the office and is located in the Bridge Section office which is physically located at 3132 Channel Drive in DOT&PF Headquarters in Juneau. Travel and field work associated with bridge inspections throughout the State is expected.
Who we are looking for:
Our successful candidate will have the following competencies through any combination of education and/or experience:
- Structural Engineering: Knowledge of the concepts, principles, theories, and methods related to the design and analysis of complex structures using a variety of materials. Structures may include aerospace systems or structures, and other determinate or indeterminate systems.
- Civil Engineering: Knowledge of the concepts, principles, theories, and methods required to plan, design, construct, operate, and maintain facilities such as buildings, transportation systems, water and sanitary systems, and other public works systems.
- Design: Knowledge of conceptualizing, developing, producing, understanding, and using plans, models, blueprints, and maps, including the use of tools and instruments to produce precision technical drawings, working prototypes, components, or systems.
