The State of New Hampshire, Division for Children, Youth & Families, Sununu Youth Services Center has a part time vacancy for Program Assistant II- Mentor
SUMMARY:
Serves as the coordinator of an activities program who has specific duties to match youth placed by the Division for Children, Youth and Families (DCYF) in foster care or at Sununu Youth Services Center (SYSC) with activity facilitators. Upholds the vision and mission of the agency through utilizing the Practice Model theories, beliefs and principles in daily practice.
YOUR EXPERIENCE COUNTS : Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience and/or each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Associate's degree from an accredited institute of higher education with major study in sociology, psychology, human services, behavioral science, social work, education, liberal studies, theology, or criminal justice. Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience.
Experience: Three years of experience working in organized group activities such as camp counseling, Boy or Girl Scouting, school or church programs, coaching sports, working with mentally and physically challenged youths and adults in a school, daycare, hospital or correctional/rehabilitative setting or any similarly related experience.
Each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.
License/Certification: None required.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Under the direction of a program specialist, develops community programming and transitional services policies and procedures based on regional and national models of best practices and in accordance with DCYF policies and procedures.
· Recruits and screens potential community program/volunteer activity leaders by obtaining references and conducting criminal and other background checks.
· Trains activity leaders on topics including but not limited to: youth engagement, confidentiality, goal setting and related DCYF policies and procedures.
· Under the direction of the program specialist, facilitates and supports transitional services for youth based on interests and/or other compatibility factors and provides ongoing support to programs and youth including conflict resolution and other services/resources as needed.
· Under the direction of a program specialist, collects data through survey’s, interviews and other methods to evaluate the impact of the mentor and activities program on a regular basis.
· Maintain a calendar of outreach activities, including community events, workshops, appearances and other communication opportunities.
· Nurture new and old relationships with collaborative partners.
