Position Summary:

The Accounting Manager will support the Controller in overseeing the financial operations of the Organization. The incumbent plays a crucial role in overseeing financial and policy-related tasks within NSS Life. This position involves ensuring compliance with accounting regulations, improving internal processes, and collaborating with organization leadership to provide financial insights. The individual will be responsible for managing the dividend checking account, authorizing bank transactions, and maintaining policy cost basis changes and for administering tax reporting processes.

Summary of Essential Functions:

  • Administers the 1099 reporting process, performing monthly maintenance, and sending tax files electronically to the IRS and PA Department of Revenue.
  • Directly manages and oversees the comprehensive requirements associated with the Required Minimum Distribution (RMDs) procedures for NSS Life clientele.
  • Administers the 5498 reporting processes, preparing and printing tax forms, and sending IRS tax files electronically as required.
  • Reviews and authorizes bank transactions as submitted by the Controller.
  • Manage the dividend checking account, reviewing outstanding / stale-dated checks, reissuing or voiding checks and applying to active policies as needed.
  • Ensures accurate accounting transactions for claims, withdrawals, and transfers, reflecting appropriate distribution codes on tax forms, and adjust processes as needed.
  • Maintain cost basis changes / corrections on policies as required.
  • Ensures the management and oversight of inherited annuities, including familiarity with and proficiency in navigating the array of available options.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting and/or finance required; Master’s level degree a plus.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to Multitask and prioritize workload effectively.
  • Thorough knowledge of Life, Annuity and Industry standards.
  • Three years' experience in Accounting and/or Finance required.
  • Three years’ experience with 1099 and 5498 reporting processes preferred.
  • Three years' experience with Required Minimum Distributions (RMDs) preferred.
  • Prior experience with Inherited Beneficiary Accounts preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Annuities required.
