General Purpose of Position Our K-6th grade tutoring program is tutoring for youth in under-resourced areas around Indianapolis to increase academic achievement. This is a great opportunity for undergraduate students to be engaged with and make a difference in the local community.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
● Provide instruction to individual or small groups of students to improve academic performance, improve occupational skills, or prepare for academic tests.
● Provide feedback to students, using positive reinforcement techniques to encourage, motivate, or build confidence in students.
● Teach students reading, math, and test-taking strategies
● Review tutoring material with students by discussing the text, working on solutions to problems, or reviewing worksheets or other assignments.
● Assess students' progress throughout tutoring sessions
● Organize tutoring environment to promote productivity and learning.
● Participate in training and development sessions to improve tutoring practices or learn new tutoring techniques.
● Collaborate with supervisors to determine student needs, develop tutoring plans, or assess student progress.
● Facilitate tutoring sessions
● Review tutoring materials prior to the session.
● Communicate students' progress to students and supervisors
● Administer academic or diagnostic assessments.
● The job requires being reliable, responsible, dependable and fulfilling obligations.
Required Qualifications
● Must be currently enrolled in courses or have a degree
● Have and maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or greater
● Must be reliable and able to manage tutoring sessions and students
● Must be willing to learn new skills
● Reliable transportation Preferred Qualifi cations
● Working knowledge of Google Drive
● Education major, but not required
● Experience working with youth Learning Outcomes Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Gained in the Tutor Role
● English Language - Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar
● Instructing - Teach others how to do something
● Critical Thinking - Use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems
● Social Perceptiveness - Awareness of others' reactions and understanding why they react as they do

● Communication - Effectively communicate with supervisors and students on their learning, and help students master learning objectives
