Applied Photobiological Chemistry Research Intern
POSITION RESPONSIBILITES
As a research intern , you will have the unique opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research and development activities in the field of applied photobiological chemistry. This internship is designed to provide students with hands-on experience in a dynamic and collaborative research environment, allowing them to explore various aspects of biological photochemistry, photofunctional molecules and nanomaterials, and innovative strategies in antimicrobial photodynamic therapy. The detailed missions will be discussed during the interview with your supervisor.
Key Areas of Focus:
- Biological Photochemistry: Explore the intricacies of biological photochemistry and its applications in the development of novel therapeutic approaches.
- Photofunctional Molecules and Nanomaterials: Contribute to the design and synthesis of photofunctional molecules and nanomaterials for biomedical applications.
- Antimicrobial Photodynamic Therapy: Investigate new strategies, including genetically encoded photosensitizers, peptide-photosensitizer conjugates, and multi-cationic photosensitizers, for enhanced antimicrobial photodynamic therapy.
- Photodynamic Therapy and Theragnostic Applications: Engage in research related to photodynamic therapy and explore theragnostic applications of light-activated drugs.
- Singlet Oxygen Detection: Contribute to the development of new strategies in singlet oxygen detection using fluorescence probes.
- Photoprotective Solar Filters: Explore the formulation and testing of photoprotective solar filters for potential applications in sun protection.
- Photoelectrochemistry: Investigate the photoelectrochemistry of nanostructured semiconductive electrodes for potential applications in energy conversion.
Requirements:
- Strong interest in applied photobiological chemistry and photonics.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
About the Organization
Research group that specializes in the biomedical applications and chemical aspects of photonics. It focuses its research and transfer activities on solar photoprotection, cancer photochemotherapy, photoantimicrobial therapies and fluorescence imaging. AppLightChem develops advanced chemical technologies for photoprotection, diagnosis and treatment of diseases with light-activated drugs. The group is an international leader in its field and has a significant number of international and corporate collaborations. It has been recognised by AGAUR as a Consolidated Research Group since 2021.
On-site Supervision and Support
Our internships include 24/7 on-site staff to support students working and living abroad. All students will also report to a supervisor at their internship site. Supervisors provide and oversee daily tasks, introduce the intern to team members, and mentor the intern in organizational agility, skill acquisition, and career readiness. Interns complete a midpoint and final evaluation, and supervisors complete a final evaluation of their interns. All work responsibilities and projects are approved in advance.
Academic Credit
Students on an internship have the opportunity to enroll in their home university for credit, or enroll in a course through API to transfer back to their university for credit. Email support-internships@apiexperience.com for more information and a syllabus.
Housing and Excursions
Housing and excursions are included in your internship and will be selectable during the application process.
