Our expertise is in space and airborne IR, VIS, UV, and RF sensors, small satellite technologies, test and calibration, cybersecurity, data visualization and assurance, and ground stations. SDL is seeking a Software Quality Engineerthat has demonstrated experience in overseeing the quality assurance and compliance aspects of software design, development, testing, and delivery.
Key Responsibilities: (percentage (%) of time spent on responsibility)
Software Quality Engineers can expect to collaborate on multiple programs at a time and provide guidance at an organizational level.
- Program Quality Engineering (50%)
- Engages with the customer to understand their expectations, requirements, needs, and risk posture
- Reviews and understands program requirements and helps guide the program in meeting those requirements
- Works with program leadership to create the program’s software development plan, software quality assurance plan, risk management strategies, test methodologies, and release requirements
- Monitors compliance to the program’s established plans
- Verifies program traceability to source code, libraries, 3rd party software, and software BOM (Bill of materials) requirements
- Ensures program compliance to industry and organizational secure software requirements
- Works with test teams, engineers, and program leadership to document and monitor software bugs and other issues
- Supports the team in resolving the issues and ensuring established change management methods are followed
- Supports the verification and validation of software to ensure it meets SDL and customer requirements
- Reviews and approves the software package for release
- Organizational Guidance (25%)
- Defines Software Quality Engineering roles and responsibilities within the organization, and works with the Quality Assurance team to ensure regulatory requirements are met
- Remains up to date with industry standards, regulations, and quality practices and supports the incorporation of new industry standards into the software development process as appropriate
- Performs organizational and program internal audits to ensure compliance to SDL processes and regulatory standards
- Managerial Tasks (25%)
- Leads and mentors Software Quality Engineers, software test teams, program teams, and Quality Assurance in understanding software quality assurance practices
- Participates in daily stand-up, weekly, and monthly meetings to collaborate with program members, test teams, and organizational groups
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- In depth understanding of and experience with Software Quality Engineering, software development best practices, and software testing best practices
- Experience with software configuration management, risk assessment, software testing, and software release
- Skill with some of the following: C++, C#, Selenium, CSS, Node.js, Confluence, Jira, Zephyr, Bitbucket, VMware/VirtualBox, Jenkins, Visual Studio, SQL, Git, etc.
- Experience in working with various software design and test tools such as Get, Bitbucket, Jira, etc.
- Experience leading teams and individuals, and balancing priorities
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently and with team members
- Ability to give constructive criticism and feedback
Required Qualifications:
- B.S. in a STEM field or equivalent years of related experience (5 years of experience)
- Ability to obtain a DoD security clearance
- Must be a U.S. Citizen
Preferred Qualifications:
- Working knowledge of Linux, Windows
- Experience in an Agile software development environment
- Experience in software coding and engineering
