Position located near IU Indianapolis Campus! (position is part of the Community Work-study program at IU Indianapolis)

Position Title - $15 per hour
Job Description
General Purpose/Agency Overview
● Like a Lion is a nonprofit that serves youth on the east side of Indianapolis through our after-school program and summer camp. As a classroom leader, you will play a pivotal role in creating a supportive and welcoming environment for our students during crucial after-school hours. Relationships are key at Like a Lion and will be a driving force behind inspiring academic success and personal development for our kiddos! Classroom leaders work hands-on with students.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
● Student Engagement: Encourage active participation and facilitate activities such as; homework time, clubs, free play, and dinner.
● Support: Act as a mentor and positive role model for students, offering emotional support and encouragement with the goal of growing self-worth and a sense of belonging.
● Academic Assistance: Provide support to help students with homework, projects, and study skills. Keep students on track and encourage a passion for learning!
● Behavior Management: Implement behavior management strategies to maintain a safe and respectful environment. Address any disruptive behavior with empathy and understanding. Work to promote conflict resolution skills and personal coping strategies among students.
● Create a positive environment: Keep classrooms and other common areas clean. Allow students to be involved in making the classroom their own!
Qualifications:
Required
a. Previous experience working with youth
b. Must be able to work Monday - Thursday 3:50 PM - 6:20 PM
c. Must be on site (5009 e 21st Street Indianapolis, IN 46218)
Preferred
a. Previous experience working with underserved communities or in an educational setting
b. Strong communication and interpersonal skills to build relationships with students, parents, and staff
c. Patience, empathy, and understanding to address the unique challenges faced by our students
d. Adaptability and initiative
e. Passion for youth development and commitment to our students

- Communicator: Applicants will gain communication skills by working with other staff, volunteers, students, and parents.
