Cartographer
US Army Corps of Engineers, Wilmington District is hiring 2 Cartographers.
Duties
- GS-7: Assists in applying knowledge of Geographic Information System (GIS) software for designing and constructing Geospatial products using imagery and GIS Datasets for deliverable items for customers and users.
- GS-7: Assist in exercising judgment to develop new and innovative solutions to complex geospatial situations.
- GS-7: Assists in applying cartographic and photogrammetric skills in preparing professional reports and presentations utilizing Microsoft Office programs and organizing the data files on a network file structure.
- GS-9: Applies professional knowledge of ESRI ArcGIS software for designing and constructing Geospatial products using imagery and Geographic Information System (GIS) Datasets for deliverable items for customers and users.
- GS-9: Exercises judgment to develop new and innovative solutions to complex geospatial situations
- GS-9: Applies cartographic and photogrammetric skills in preparing professional reports and presentations utilizing MicroSoft Office programs and organizing the data files on a network file structure.
Conditions of Employment
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation (NACI-TIER-1).
- Employee must possess and maintain valid driver license.
- Employee must obtain and maintain a US Army Corps of Engineers Boat Operator License within one (1) year of employment.
- Pathway employee will be required to sign a mobility agreement.
- Incumbent must undergo a pre employment physical.
Qualifications
Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in cartography, or a degree with a major that included or was supplemented by at least 30 semester hours in cartography and/or directly related science, and related mathematics. Such course work includes, but is not limited to, cartography, astronomy, geodesy, photogrammetry, physical and geological oceanography, computer science, land surveying, geophysics, physical geography, and remote sensing. The 30 semester hours must have included at least 6, but no more than 15, semester hours of college level, non-business mathematics or statistics (i.e., college level algebra, trigonometry, calculus, or scientific mathematics or statistics requiring equivalent college-level courses as prerequisites).
Who May Apply: Positions are open to:
- Recent graduates who have completed, within the previous two years, a qualifying associates, bachelors, masters, professional, doctorate, vocational or technical degree or certificate from a qualifying educational institution. Short-term training programs (e.g. several two-week programs completed) are not considered an academic course of study.
- Current students who will graduate no later than 3 months.
- Preference eligible veterans who were precluded from applying due to their military service obligation begin their two-year eligibility period upon release or discharge from active duty. Eligibility for these veterans cannot exceed six years after degree or certificate completion
Applicants can be selected at GS-7 or GS-9. The target grade of this position is GS-11.
