Music Teacher & Director of Marching Band
Holy Name High School is looking to fill an immediate opening for a Marching Band Director and Music Teacher who will be responsible for developing an interest in and the ability for creative expression, using skills and techniques of vocal expression consistent with school policies; to develop musical understandings and appreciations; to discover and develop talents of students in the field of vocal music. The candidate will also provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, social and spiritual growth.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
• Instruct and administer of all aspects of the marching band, string ensemble, symphonic band and jazz bands supporting the Mission of Holy Name
• Teach knowledge and skills in vocal and instrumental music.
• Knowledge of music theory and music technology.
• Create an engaging classroom environment conducive to learning that motivates students.
• Develop and implement differentiated instructional strategies for each student’s academic growth.
• Prepare lessons that reflect accommodation for individual student differences.
• Hold auditions and determine the best spot for each student member.
• Establish performance requirements, enforce academic requirements, and verify each student's eligibility to participate in band/concert.
• Choose music to be performed and execute three (3) concerts (Fall, Christmas, Spring) to showcase student work.
• Chaperone as needed at performances and bus rides.
• Maintain accurate inventory of all band equipment, uniforms, flags, batons etc.
• Determine and follow through with the maintenance, repair, cleaning, and storage of all band equipment and uniforms.
• Develop methods to recruit and retain students for the music programs.
• Prepare lesson plans that engage, stimulate and instruct students.
• Consistently assess student achievement through formal and informal assessment.
• Act as a positive role model for students that supports the mission of the school.
• Manage student behavior in the classroom and administer discipline according to school policies, regulations.
• Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students, and parents.
• Maintain a professional relationship with all colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
• Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible.
• Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on committees as required.
• Any other assignment deemed appropriate by the building principal.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor’s degree from accredited university
• Valid Ohio teaching certificate.
• Knowledge in vocal music and instrumental music.
• General knowledge of curriculum and instruction.
• Ability to instruct students and manage behavior.
• Proficient in using technology as an instructional and management tool.
• Strong communications, public relations, and interpersonal skills
• Prior high school teaching experience is preferred.
• The position requires VIRTUS certification and FBI/BCI background check.
