Salary:  $60,478.00 - $84,669.00 Annually

Location:  Dade City & Land O' Lakes & Wesley Chapel, Florida

Department:  Building Construction Services

General Description:  This role involves responsible work in supervising employees engaged in review and issuing permits and tracking of all monies taken by their area.

Essential Job Functions:  Maintains continuous contact with the general public, applicants, and other agencies regarding the permitting process. Explains permitting process, land development regulations and requirements to the public and applicants. Coordinates with the various departments, divisions, and agencies to ensure that correct procedures are being followed. Keeps self and employees assigned to unit up-to-date on new code revisions and procedures. Tracks all money received by the unit. Reviews and evaluates employees' performance. Hires and trains new employees. Participates in special projects. Performs related work as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of Federal, State, and County ordinances, and permitting procedures.
  • Ability to read aerial photographs, engineering scales, and other related documents.
  • Ability to read simple blueprints.
  • Knowledge of the principles of office management, practices, procedures, equipment, and operational requirements.
  • Ability to plan, assign, and supervise the work of subordinates.
  • Ability to type accurately at moderate speed and use calculators.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other division heads, employees, and the public.

Minimum Requirements:

PHYSICAL SKILLS/WORKING CONDITIONS:  Requires standing, walking, and bending. Ability to communicate effectively using verbal, written and visual communication.

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:  Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree and four (4) years of experience in public contact work processing construction permits, or related experience OR an Associate degree and six (6) years of experience in public contact work processing construction permits, or related experience required OR  graduation from High School or acceptable equivalency diploma and ten (10) years of experience. Three (3) years of experience in customer service duties involving frequent public contact.  

LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS OR REGISTRATIONS:  Must possess a valid Florida driver's license. Must be a certified International Code Council Permit Technician.
