Manufacturing Engineering Intern

About Slate

Slate is a new US company exploring development in the electric vehicle space.

Salary: $20 to $25 per hour

Who we are looking for:

  • Join our Manufacturing Engineering Team as a Manufacturing Intern for the Winter 2025 Semester (January to April) and contribute to impactful projects in an innovative automotive environment.
  • On-site presence required: Applicants must be able to work in person at our Lake Orion, MI assembly facility, gaining hands-on experience in a pre-production phase. 
  • Eager to learn and grow? This internship provides hands-on experience with prototype vehicles, allowing you to actively contribute to the build phase.
  • Real-world experience in a startup culture: Ideal for interns who are excited to tackle challenges, collaborate across teams, and play a key role in driving results in an evolving environment.

What you get to do:

  • Support manufacturing operations including validating build content and quality.
  • Document existing and new tooling in Solid Words or AutoCAD.
  • Overall improvement and standardization of current manufacturing documentation.
  • Participate in Beta Vehicle assembly and launch activities
  • Collaborate with product engineering and other cross functional teams.
  • Lead and support Lean/Kaizen activities.
  • Utilize continuous improvement skills to enhance processes and systems.
  • Conduct data collection activities including time and utilization studies.

What you bring to the team:

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in manufacturing engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field, with a passion for hands-on engineering and manufacturing solutions.
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles and techniques, with a keen interest in optimizing processes and driving efficiency in production environments.
  • Proficient or interested in using precision measuring tools, ensuring accuracy and quality in all aspects of engineering and manufacturing tasks.
  • Desire to work with power tools and industrial machinery, with a practical understanding of their application in manufacturing and assembly processes.
  • Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills, with a methodical approach to identifying issues and implementing effective solutions in fast-paced settings.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work seamlessly within cross-functional teams and contribute to collective problem-solving efforts.
